Verb tenses: Simple Past

The verb tense Simple Past has always the form:

[Verb + ed] or second column of the irregular verbs list

Examples:

  • You talked to Laila.
  • Did you talk to Laila?
  • You did not talk to Laila.

There are five types of usage of the Simple Past. Let’s study them, here.

To understand better the verb tenses, it is always useful to check the following picture, where you have when each tense is used. Check only the Simple Past and Present tenses (last two), the other ones you will learn in the future.
